Run, Hide, Fight

No one expects to find themselves in an active shooter situation, but in the event that there is on, the Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵcommunity should be prepared to RUN – HIDE – FIGHT.

Run

  • Have an escape route and plan in mind.
  • Leave your belongings behind.
  • Keep your hands visible.
  • Call WCUPD or 911 or use the LiveSafe App (need to find the webpage for the link) when you are in a safe place.

Hide

  • Take time now to learn the different ways to seek shelter in your building.
  • If you can’t escape, hide in an area out of the shooter’s view, and behind something solid if possible.
  • Block entry to your hiding place and lock the doors.
  • Silence your cell phone and other devices.
  • Keep it simple. Hiding could be as simple as locking a door.

Fight

  • Fighting is a last resort to be used only when your life is in imminent danger.
  • Attempt to incapacitate the active shooter.
  • Find an object to use as a weapon, such as a fire extinguisher or chair. Be creative.
  • Work as a team with someone else if possible.

Report it before it happens!

If someone is demonstrating concerning behavior or making comments of committing violence, contact Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵPD immediately. If you are concerned about behavior, but there is no immediate threat to the Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵcommunity, you may to Student Affairs.

Take a moment to familiarize yourself with the Run Hide Fight model.
