The annual Shetland Society Day and 1889 Club Celebration features expressions of gratitude, distribution of “thank you” gifts, complimentary snacks and refreshments, and a ceremonial stroll by Chancellor Kelli R. Brown and a pair of Shetland ponies. The event also prpvides opportunities for faculty, staff and students to make donations to programs that benefit all areas of campus. Faculty and staff who contribute to ĢƵthrough their philanthropy in addition to through their day-to-day responsibilities comprise the Shetland Society, while current students who donate a minimum of $18.89 to the Fund for ĢƵare among members of the 1889 Club.
A fresh format for a cherished tradition that brings together our generous donors and our incredible student scholarship and programmatic recipients they support. During the showcase, attendees will have the chance to listen to inspiring stories from current students, recent graduates, esteemed ĢƵalumni, dear friends, and dedicated donors. We hope that by the end of the luncheon, attendees will leave with newfound inspiration and a profound appreciation for the unwavering support of the Catamount family towards its students.
The event is designed to thank those donors who comprise the Madison Legacy Society and the Cullowhee Society and honor their record of major financial contributions to the university. Established in 2020, the Madison Legacy Society recognizes donors who have made planned gifts to the university or the ĢƵFoundation, while the Cullowhee Society acknowledges cumulative giving of gifts totaling $100,000 or more. Both groups recognize lifetime giving to ĢƵand the critical impact of private philanthropy in helping many students achieve their goals of earning a university degree.
