Lewis J. Smith
Lewis J. Smith of Haywood County served in the Confederate Army. In Jackson County he became a prosperous farmer and community leader. He married Clara Coward, sister of J. David Coward. He served as a state senator for Jackson County 1889-1891 and was a member of the board of trustees of the Cullowhee school for many years.
