Biography

Dr. Larry B. Fisher is an Assistant Professor in the Special Education program at Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ. He was a Nationally Board-Certified classroom teacher who taught for thirteen years across the continuum of services. Before his work in the classroom, Dr. Fisher worked with children and adults with severe and profound disabilities in a group home setting for six years. Dr. Fisher received his undergraduate degree, master’s degree, and post-master's certificate in school administration from Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ and received his Ph.D. in Special Education from UNC Charlotte. He holds NC Professional Educator Licensure in the areas of School Administrator-Principal, Learning Disabilities (K-12), Severe-Profound Disabilities (K-12), and Intellectual Disability (K-12).

Teaching Interests

Dr. Fisher’s teaching focus has been on courses related to behavioral and academic interventions for students with extensive support needs including students with severe and profound intellectual disabilities and students with autism spectrum disorders. He teaches courses in both the undergraduate and graduate-level adaptive curriculum programs. His expertise includes applied behavior analysis, positive behavior management approaches, systematic instruction, and evidence-based practices for students with autism spectrum disorders.

Research Interests

Dr. Fisher’s research interests include antecedent-based interventions based on the principles of applied behavior analysis for addressing challenging classroom behaviors, teaching communication skills to students with complex communication needs, and teacher evaluation tools for teachers of students with significant disabilities. He is also interested in single-case design methodology.
