I have taught Spanish at Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵsince 2008, and as of January 2023, I also serve as the Associate Dean of Brinson Honors College.

Along with Dr. Alberto Centeno-Pulido (now at the Asheville School), I have taken over 170 students on faculty-led study abroad programs in Spain and Cuba.
I teach classes in Spanish language as well as Latin American and Latinx literatures and cultures.

I honestly can't think of a more interesting thing to study. What can tell us more about the human experience than language, or the literary and cultural expressions of how we see the word? These things touch all of us, and there is always more to be learned.
My area of specialization is contemporary Latin American cultural production with a concentration in contemporary Cuban narrative, and my research often focuses on aspects of cultural studies and gender studies in Latin America. Recent work has focused on heterotopian spaces in Cuban fiction and inversions of gender in Latinx popular music. My book, Pedro Juan Gutiérrez's Dirty Realism: Reinventing Cuban Spaces was published by Lexington Books in May 2023.
