Dr. Clines is on research leave for the 2024-2025 Academic Year<br><br><br>In addition to the History Department, I am affiliated with the International Studies Program and the Global Black Studies Program.<br><br>I am a literary historian of the premodern Mediterranean, with a particular focus on Italian and Romance cultural, historical, and literary traditions, as well as their relationships with the Arab and Muslim worlds. I also write on classical reception, empire, and interactions between Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.<br><br>My scholarship has been supported by the US-Italy Fulbright Commission, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the University of Cambridge, the American Academy in Rome, the Arizona Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies, the Bogliasco Foundation, and the Folger Shakespeare Library.
