Biography

Steve Johnson is an Associate Instructor in the School of Health and Human Sciences, specializing in the Emergency Medical Care (EMC) Program at Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ. He brings over 35 years of clinical and leadership experience in emergency medical services and healthcare.<br>Steve holds certifications from the International Board of Specialty Certifications (IBSC) as a Critical Care Paramedic (CCP-C) and Community Paramedic (CP-C). He is a Nationally Registered Paramedic (NRP) and is licensed as a Registered Nurse by the North Carolina Board of Nursing (NCBON). Additionally, he is recognized as a Nationally Certified EMS Educator (NCEE) by the National Association of EMS Educators (NAEMSE) and holds the Certified Medical Transport Executive (CMTE) credential from the Association of Air Medical Services (AAMS).<br>Throughout his career, Steve has held numerous leadership roles, including Chief Flight Paramedic with UNC Air Care, Critical Care Transport Director for Indiana University Health System, and Director of Government Affairs with PHI Air Medical. His expertise extends to business development and education, serving as Vice President of Business Development with 7Bar Aviation, Director of Business Development with Clarian Health, EMS Coordinator and Training Officer with Skyland Fire Department, and Critical Care Program Coordinator at Blue Ridge Community College.<br>Steve’s contributions to professional organizations include serving as Board Chair for the North Carolina Association of Paramedics (NCAP) and as a Board Member with the Association of Air Medical Services (AAMS), where he was the appointed representative to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). He has also served on the boards of the Association of Critical Care Transport (ACCT) and Skyland Fire Department and as a Regent for the Medical Transport Leadership Institute (MTLI).<br>Currently, Steve remains actively engaged with Skyland Fire Department, where he received the Chief’s Commendation in 2023 and serves as a community paramedic. A native of Western North Carolina and a graduate of Roberson High, Steve is committed to advancing emergency medical care through education, mentorship, and community engagement.

Research interests focus on community health with a particular emphasis on improving outcomes in elder and pediatric care populations.
