MATH 200 - Introduction to Mathematical Problem Solving

Course Description

Introduction to problem solving strategies appropriate for K-12 mathematics teaching and learning. Prerequisite:  MATH 146 or higher.  One semester hour.

Objectives

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • demonstrate methods and techniques that are helpful in solving problems.
  • communicate mathematical understanding through writing and oral presentations.

Course Outline

  • Problems are selected by the instructor from the first fourteen chapters of the textbook that challenge students to attempt various strategies to solve non-traditional problems.
  • Students work individually and in teams.
