Geography is a spatial discipline that examines the patterns and processes related
to the structure of the Earth, its human inhabitants and the interaction between the
two. Encompassing both physical and human aspects, the geographic perspective enhances
a wide variety of fields from the natural sciences and environmental studies to business,
politics, health and education.

What You'll Learn
The discipline of Geography is the interdisciplinary science of spatial investigation.
Students may examine a variety of topics including climate and weather patterns,
geospatial analysis, or regional cultural, political, economic and environmental issues.
The minor also introduces students to geospatial technologies including Geographic
Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing.
The Geography minor consists o´Ú&²Ô²ú²õ±è;any 18 credit hours of GEOG courses. The 18 hours of GEOG courses required to complete
the geography minor can be drawn from human geography, physical geography, or geospatial
techniques courses.
Students of Geography will be adept at applying geographic reasoning to a&²Ô²ú²õ±è;wide variety of issues. This unique perspective makes them an asset in the work force with the ability to
examine issues from multiple perspectives and a spatial point of view.
More About Our Geography Minor
Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ’s Geography Minor gives students from any major the opportunity
to explore the dynamic relationships between people, places, and environments across
the globe. Through coursework that spans human geography, physical geography, regional
studies, and geospatial technologies, students gain a strong foundation in how social,
cultural, political, and environmental forces shape the world we live in. The program
develops geographic thinking skills that help students understand complex global issues
such as climate change, urbanization, population trends, natural hazards, sustainability,
and resource use.
Students can tailor the minor through electives in areas like global change, world
cultures, environmental systems, landforms, and regional geography. Many courses incorporate
maps, spatial analysis, and real-world case studies, encouraging students to develop
critical thinking and data-interpretation skills that complement a wide range of majors.
The Geography Minor complements many majors by offering flexible coursework that explores
how place, people, and environment intersect. Learn through classes in human geography,
environmental geography, mapping and spatial methods, and global regional studies.
The Geography Minor is designed for flexibility. Students can pursue it alongside
a wide range of majors — from arts to sciences, business, education or social sciences.
.
With coursework in human and physical geography, spatial analysis, and global/regional
studies, graduates of the minor bring geographic literacy — understanding how culture,
environment, and society intersect.
