Studying biology at Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ includes a program of discovery in genetics, physiology, and ecology...and that’s just the beginning! If you enjoy the field of biology, our core curriculum is designed for you with research opportunities ranging from regenerative medicine and protein dynamics to animal behavior and ecological conservation.

Guided by an international community of faculty members who are dedicated to research, you and your fellow students are encouraged to pursue studies and take advantage of extraordinary facilities that stretch beyond the campus to include the , the , and the nearby , to name but a few.

Our inclusive curriculum produces graduates who understand the scope and perspective of modern biology. The Biology Program prepares students to succeed at the next level, whether that’s pursuing a career in biological research, health professions, business, or education, or going on to post-graduate studies. We offer a broad range of learning opportunities, including traditional classroom experiences, hands-on experiences in the field and the laboratory, independent study, and full student engagement in research.

Biology Department Degree Options

• Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Biology
  Students may select from the following concentrations: Pre-health Professional; Molecular Biology; and Ecology and Evolutionary Biology.
• Eight-Semester Plan, Pre-Health Professional Concentration
• Eight-Semester Plan, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Concentration
• Eight-Semester Plan, Molecular Biology Concentration
• Bachelor of Science in Education (B.S.Ed.) in Biology
  Students are recommended for North Carolina secondary teacher certification in biology and/or comprehensive science.
• 
  The minor requires 23 hours, including the following courses: BIOL 140, BIOL 141, BIOL 240, BIOL 241, and 7 hours of junior/senior biology electives.
