Beta, a community three miles east of the Sylva, N.C., is located along the banks of Scotts Creek. Fisher Creek is one of the tributaries of Scotts Creek. As in many other locales in the mountains, fishing was a popular sport and pastime.

“The Bryson City Times says that the United States Fish Commission sent a carload of California trout last week to be distributed in suitable streams between that place and Asheville. The greater portion of them were turned loose in the vicinity of Balsam, but 3,000 were taken to Sylva and put into Scott’s and Fisher’s creeks.”
